10 4 The Floor

So we are stepping up to the platters for the first time since our ill fated covid cancelled UK weekender. We have never stopped (will never stop) collecting the best of the old and the new.

Tonight at the Ulster Sports Club here’s a little taste of what to expect…

808 4EVA

Very saddened to hear of the passing of Andrew Barker from Manchester’s seminal 808 State band.

Here are some all time favs, RIP AB.

Some Confusion

Mixed Signals re-issuing some quite gloriously lo fi productions that put the polished stuff to shame.
So much personality in these tracks.

Go’wan Then

Someone who constantly pushes the boundaries of electronic music is Blawan.

Always fresh, always interesting, never compromising, here are five I love!

Too Many Strooms

Belgiums know best, and the Stroom label is consistently great, especially on the re-issue front. I may have posted some of these tracks before – all of them firm favourites, that they have done a great job of putting out again and hopefully finding new ears.

A.N.Y.C

Someone from the modern electronics world I always check, is New York based Anthony Naples. He certainly knows how to craft a club record, always with just enough elements. Here are 5 tried and tested A.N bombs…

Doctor, Doctor!

Slightly strange reissue label Medical Records.
At times putting out records that aren’t really that hard to find or have been reissued not that long ago with better pressings…
but still on point with taste (in my opinion).

SHELL FIRE

If looking for modern sounds for the floor, then check London duo Two Shell who make club music with a different kinda’ swing. Touches of garage, broken beat and detroit techno all compound to make for some of the best programming around.

Five 2S favs below…

Are You Listening?

Classic (early) Planet E Communications. Founded by Carl Craig in ’91 and housed A LOT of his amazing productions. I’ve gone for 5 that I don’t think he had a hand in, but I could be wrong. Just raw, soulful (but never dull) electronic music.

3:26

Been loving the raw energy of Chicago’s Jamie 3:26 for a while. He seems to have that skill for making, editing & blending, house, disco, funk and techno in a similar way to how Ron Hardy jacked the party,  must be a Chi-town thing!
